How it used to be,
people and customs

In the past 80 years, the settlement of Ivanec Bistranski  (Zaprešic municipality) has developed together with its inhabitants. Thanks to the expansion of the town Zaprešic, better economic and political conditions, a settlement with a strong independent activity (crafts, entrepreneurship and small private companies) emerged from a typical Prigorje-village where everyone was engaged in agriculture.

The result of political changes in the last 80 years is that Ivanec was in 4 countries: the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, NDH (the Independent State of Croatia), the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and finally the Republic of Croatia.

Ivancani and Ivancanke love their place. The pride and tradition of Ivanec is also reflected in the fact that the wedding processions were held under Ivanec's "flags with tying". It was a sign that we always loved to be “on our own” it was an almost 100-year-old folk tradition.

This selection of mostly family photographs tries to evoke the customs and life in Ivanec Bistranski in the last 80 years. It is intended for all people of good will. Both the "locals", the elderly to be reminded and the young to see how life used to be, as well as those who have immigrated in the last 30 years and found their new homeland here.

This photo story is also a reminder of the many good people who are no longer with us. Although one picture says more than a thousand words, we tried to convey the point of each photo with a short text below each picture.

If you have old photographs showing customs, the appearance of the village of the Bistra-landscape and similar motifs somewhere in the closet; and if you want them not to be forgotten, contact us and we will incorporate them into this little photo story. We would like to extend this photo story to other settlements in our homeland.

Your remark will be dear to us.
Pleasant entertainment!
