The biggest pilgrimage to Marija Bistrica of the Bistra parish was in 1990.
For the first time in many decades, the entire Bistra region (from Ivanec Bistranski, through Jablanovac, Novak, Bukovje, Poljanica, Donja and Gornja Bistra) set out under the flag of the Croatian Peasant Party HSS on the Way of the Cross in Marija Bistrica.
In the past, the HSS was a very strong party in the Bistra-region. The flag carried by the "bistrans" on the Way of the Cross dates back to the past, when HSS president Stjepan Radic visited Bistra in March 1928 to sponsor a new bell at the church of St. Nicholas in Poljanica, where he gave a speech in front of a crowd of people.
